SUNDAY NIGHT

I mostly stayed in Sunday and didn't go out until 2am to meet up with friends. After cutting the line to get in, the door guy asked who's party I was with and I said, "I don't know uuhhhh..." and he was just like, ok I don't care just go in. Door crap is so weird. My ex-girlfriend was right inside the entrance, about to leave, looking ex-trabeautiful in hot clothes and grabbed me for a hug with a big smile on her face. I don't know how some girls make it look so easy but she always looks perfect. And I've seen her dress and do her hair; no apparent effort whatsoever. I love seeing her and it feels great to hug her and talk because she's so smart and upbeat about everything (plus she smells like sugar and cupcakes) but I always have a sort of numb ex-girlfriend withdrawal afterwards. I may not be in love with her but I still love being around her; she has a profound coolness to her that makes any time you spend with her feel really good.
I almost never get drunk enough to do much dancing anymore so I took pictures.

Karen got a whole roast pig from Chinatown instead of a birthday cake and stuck candles in it. Of course I immediatly took a picture up its ass. I used to be a vegan and I really do feel bad for pigs especially but when you're hanging out with a knife-wielding vietnamese-french girl and a flaming pig carcass, you go with the flow. Luke's brother flew in from Minnesota where he goes to dental school. Their dad is a dentist and I once asked Luke why he hates dentistry so much. He put on this disgusted face and said, "our mailbox was a giant tooth that read 'Tooth Acres.'"

CHINATOWN PARTY

Went to this weird friend of a friends party. Used my pepsi points (ari collected 39 caps at the hospital where I work) to fill out my Les Savy Fav collection. Holy fucking shit they are the best band ever. The new white stripes album is great as well. I've been listening to it for a week strait at work and I still can't get enough of it.

MAY PHOTO ROUNDUP

Sorry, here's a bunch of random photographs I took this month that don't belong together. I was trying out my new camera so I took some cheesey photos of flowers and happy colorful people in my garden outside just to see what it could do. And then, of course, the next day I took inappropriate pictures with it.

Dun da da!

I had a rough day so these pictures my friend took cheered me up. Ari met us to go to the furniture design thing in williamsburg. I hated it but he fit right in. The big man was on vacation this week so he took time off from his busy schedule of hitting the queens bars (I'm not joking actually, he's very busy) to hang out with us boring kids.

REUNION

I went to my high school reunion friday. I took very few pictures because I was talking to everyone and forgot. It was weird to see those people. Depressing too...to see who hasn't grown or changed much. I'll write more about it later. I was messing around with a hasselblad this weekend and generally up to mischief as usual so I have lots of pictures to post. Here's a few.

BLONDE REDHEAD

Blonde Redhead played the Bicycle Film Festival afterparty last night. Thank you to my friend at Rogan jeans for inviting me. Here's where I shamelessly remark, "nice jeans Kazu, I wonder who makes them."

JILL

This is actually a photograph. I'm not sure if I like it now that I made it but whatever.

ARI'S 29TH BIRTHDAY

We had a Klondike bar party for Ari yesterday (his favorite). I think he had 3 or 4. Ari was once on an online dating site and wrote under his interests, "cookies, milkshakes, candy and ice cream." Then he was like, "what so funny bitch? I like the things." Anyway here are some pictures I just scanned. The prints look a lot better. Polaroids don't scan very well. I think he looks like a russian cosmonaut in the first one.

MORE CULTURE PLEASE

I almost forgot, so much happened this weekend. On saturday I went to see a four hour dance sampler way uptown at symphony space. Four hours. But it was so good I sat through the whole thing. An awesome girl who dropped out of college to go to dance school is subletting the other bedroom in my apartment so I've been getting twice as much art and culture as usual. Before the dance we went to meet friends at an opening for their friend Whitney Bedford. She's really good and I thought her paintings kind of blew historial naval paintings out of the water. Ba-dum-ching. They don't show it on the website but one of her paintings has this big wave that's violently crashing into one of the ships and it's painted in this subtle violent color. If you're wandering around west 22nd it's definitely worth a look. As is a giant octopus like mass of tubes with salt crystals in the back. It turns out that the artist was actually draining her octopus tank when the crystals started to grow on the filter tubes so she encouraged it to keep going. A woman hovered over us to make sure we didn't bump it. Anyway, I don't know what I'm saying, my head hurts today. I'll have to get back to posting more interesting things than what I did over the weekend. But I've been too busy and not inspired to write about what I've been thinking about lately. I will soon.
10:46 PM | Comments (0)HOLGA POLAROID
Apple just posted a new version of iTunes that supports videos. Guess you'll be able to download those from the music store soon too...and then play them on your ipod photo? Doubt I'll be doing that. The gadget I want is an evil magnetic pulse device...or maybe since I'm not feeling very into evil magnetic pulse devices today...a small medical device attached to my belt that injects me with a powerful but temporary acting hallucinatory sedative whenever somebody or something annoys me when I'm this hung over.
I think I lost my camera last night. I'm not sure. I went to sway for their hot-people meatmarket extravaganza again and never made it back home. I hope it's on the floor somewhere in my friend's house. So no pictures for a while I guess. I'm all excited about my new camera anyway. I had some money saved up and was thinking of buying an old medium format camera to mess around with. But then I decided to be more in tune with my crapp-o-matic digital camera and get a Holga when I saw you can get a polaroid back for them. Holgas are all plastic cameras with plastic lenses that look like they cost $20 and were made in a chinese toy factory. That's because they do and they were. So sunday afternoon I met Thomasin at B and H and bought one. She had never been there and marveled at the overhead conveyerbelt system that takes your camera to the checkout area. It was about $100 altogether, includes a flash and takes beautiful 7x7 squares. The professor next door has a sick horrendously expensive medium format film scanner that captures at 4600dpi in his office so I'm going to start shooting some 6x6 transparencies and show them here.
Sunday afternoon was so beautiful that we walked downtown along the hudson river and then walked around the west village. She lives there so she knows where everything is but I've really only been to the west village like a dozen times even though I grew up here. It really is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the world. Those quiet sun strewn streets are prefect for sunday afternoons.

CINCO DE MAYO

A couple of friends and I went way out to bushwick for a byob mexican fiesta that james was throwing in his mexican friend's restaurant. I had a gahochoas or something like that. It was a big handmade cornmeal pancake with spicy meat on top. And like 7-8 beers. You could order goat too.
Then we hung out in brooklyn for a bit, drank tequila and met a really cute and shy dog.
