HOCKEY NIGHT

Hockey Night came to nyc this weekend and I had no idea. This despite being alerted on myspace by Loose Record's Jay who's a genius in many ways and knows everything good going on. I never check myspace, maybe I should. I really like Hockey Night, their artwork and photos, their music and the other people who like them too and show up to see them. Instead I spent the night at my friend's apartment ripping through three 50s, checking out her latest artwork and watching her collection of Chris Cunningham videos...and engaging in 9 strait hours of conversation. My personal affiliation with substances is more the pedestrian and pragmatic new yorker that has to get up for work in the morning. But these girls had laid out such a decadent assortment of uncommon things that I felt like a dog who wanders into the kitchen and finds an unguarded cold cut platter on the counter. Fuck the puppychow so to speak. My friends are sort of bougesoise Neal Cassady types who are experts in the alchemy of counteracting one thing with another to achieve what they want with enough errie accuracy as to make you believe that they know exactly what they're doing. That combined with the fact that they're very pretty, assertive and obscenely smart had me following their directions. They certainly seem to know what they're doing. I had a great time and woke up, albeit late sunday evening, feeling wonderful. I wish I had seen hockey night though.
