SXSW -- Here's all the photos

Lady Sovereign summing up what musicians thought of photographers last week. Actually she was just kidding. She's really nice.

On saturday I drove to east austin to meet Alex. The plan was to drink beers in parking lots and listen to hardcore. It was a welcome relief from the parties and crowds in downtown. Everyone was friendly and worth talking to like rock and roll should be. Plus I love standing outside drinking beer. Virgina showed up with cute green shoes and her dog George who's part weimaraner and part great dane.

These guys below are Funeral Diner. I love how hardcore musicians are always all sweet and mild mannered and then plug in and go nuts. The lead singer had to take his glasses off as if he was about to get into a fight. Really good.

My friend took me to this party to see Craig from vhs or beta but I walked outside to see Peaches do a DJ set that turned out to be a real show. She had burlesque girls with big sexy butts dancing around and taking their clothes off. More bands should incorporate that. She played songs from her upcoming album which I was too distracted to pay attention too. Something about dicks and pussies.

This is DMBQ from Japan. They wrecked the place, literally, and threw rocks at their drum kit. Right after the show they showed up in the muddy punk parking lot with super spiffy suits and slicked hair.

Virginia showing off her long legs. Hey I think that's Kip from tv in the radio in the background and one of the spiffy japanese dudes on the right. I liked that celebs showed up to this thing. It was in the middle of nowwhere in east austin, not remotely crowded, free and loads of fun. Right after this I drove Ben and Virginia to get some quick mexican food on east 7th street. They took the opportunity to overdose on margaritas and we drove off to find the vice party down the street. I couldn't find it so I pulled into a goodwill warehouse parking lot to check directions. A big SUV full of rich guys and cute girls pulled in too and raced back into the darkness. Must be the place--I followed them and found it. We got there early and got strangely good vanilla-bourbon and cokes. Outside, Virginia and I were sitting on a big triceratops' tail, the only place to sit in the whole party and this big rocker dude made his friend burn off a strangely frayed hem of his fancy jeans. Not much to say about vice, it was friendly and fun. They had his and hers porta-potties. The hers were bright pink to keep stinky-ass guys away and apparently smelled powder-fresh according to virginia.

Thanks. This is most of the film. I'll write in some stories and post the digital stuff later. I'm trying to be a more diligent black and white photographer so I actually thought about exposures and used N+1 development since the sky was overcast.
