RYAN AND BRITTA AND RANDOM STUFF

I took pictures of ryan for the first time in 6 months. We only had like 20 minutes before she had to run off to meet up with her boyfriend so they're pretty rough. I'm gonna go back and do them again better. Styling and makeup by Ryan. The first one is her directed photo and then I took over and took film photos. I like her freckles.

Britta was kind of enough to let me try out some equipment I never used with her. We did some digital goofy pictures to warm up with her awesome neighbor who lent me an extention cord. But then I got kind of drunk so we never ended up taking very good photos.

I took these of Ryan for her friend who has a local brooklyn magazine. A lot of people email about what kind of camera I use etc. I rent fancy stuff sometimes but pretty much use cheap shit. I shot these with the cheapest canon rebel on jpg setting and they're fine. If you're not going to shell out the money for a full frame camera, it's all the same shit. Here I used a Carl Zeiss Sonnar lens made for contax. It's as good as overpriced canon L lenses and I got it with an adaptor for under 200. It's manual focus but I shoot things that don't move. I don't use 99% of the features on these modern cameras. I don't need expensive fast lenses for most things, I shoot almost everything at F11 or at least F4. A lot of this fancy 35mm equipment is really made for journalists, wedding photographers and wildlife people who have to do things fast in less than ideal conditions. If you're not one of those, you probably don't need to spend so much.

That being said I do have some fancy stuff. This for instance is a pretty baddass camera. I can do things with it that people with EOS 1ds Mark II cameras can't unless they're taking the photo with a telephoto lens from the next zip code. But I could sell it tomorrow for within a hundred bucks of what I paid for it so unless I break it, it's sort of free. The lens is used for buildings and by photographers with small penises.

This thing costs a fortune and blew over despite two sandbags and nearly knocked out the actress I was photographing. I somehow got it working again (I'm using this camera's flash to test it) but it's all sad and held together with gaffer's tape.
